Website or Social Media

Website or Social Media?

Business owners often ask if they need a website when they already have a presence on social media. Social media platforms can be powerful tools for businesses but a website remains an essential element of a business's online presence.

Here are a few reasons why a website is still essential for businesses:

  1. Control and ownership: With a website, a business has complete control over its content, design, and functionality. On social media platforms, a business is limited to the features and functionality provided by the platform, and it has no control over changes in the platform's algorithms or policies.
  2. Credibility and professionalism: A website provides a level of credibility and professionalism that social media profiles cannot match. A well-designed and informative website can help establish a business's legitimacy and expertise in its industry.
  3. E-commerce: For businesses that sell products or services online, a website is essential for e-commerce functionality. While social media platforms offer some e-commerce features, they are limited compared to the capabilities of a dedicated e-commerce website.
  4. SEO: A website is essential for search engine optimization (SEO), which can help a business rank higher in search engine results pages and attract more organic traffic. While social media profiles can also appear in search results, they do not provide the same level of SEO optimization as a website.

Both social media and a website presence have their advantages, but neither is strong enough on its own. There are many tools and businesses available to help with the creation of a website. Check out our business directory or call your Chamber of Commerce for resources.
