Dear Member November 4, 2019 - Graphic Arts
I was a student again this week! Yeah, it felt great to get back in a classroom, even if it was only briefly. At the Chamber, we have great opportunities to work with students at New River Community College, Virginia Tech, and Radford University. Over the years we have had numerous interns from various departments including interior design, business, industrial psychology, and marketing. Recently, one of our members had agreed to work with a marketing class at NRCC. Anytime I have the opportunity to go to a marketing class or a graphic arts class, I’m going. Having a graphic arts background I find it really cool to see how this profession has evolved over the years and is now considered a vital component of any marketing campaign.
It wasn’t that many years ago (I’m not mentioning how many) that you couldn’t get a job as a graphic artist with a livable wage. Today, the profession is getting the respect it deserves. Graphic artists today are transforming the way we see the world via well thought-out and designed media campaigns. Whether we realize it or not, these advertisements influence every one of our purchasing decisions. That’s a lot of buying power.
If you think about it, artists and entrepreneurs are really cut from the same cloth. They are both pushing forward to that next level, whether it’s a new technique, idea, or business deal. I truly believe there is a little bit of artist in all of us when we try our best to persuade others to see things our way. We do that successfully everyday as businesses, and we provide a service by sharing the ways our businesses can help others to be the best they can be or to complete a task effectively and efficiently.
Work hard, be productive, and, above all else stay positive.
